IGN article by David Clayman
March 9, 2010 - Recently we learned that the massively popular game Portal would be receiving a sequel this year. Now, in the latest issue of Game Informer magazine we've been given some solid details about the release.
Doug Lombardi the Vice President of Marketing at Valve says of the first game: "Portal was so short because it was a trial…" Now they are working on the sequel which is reported to be a full length, full price release that will be available this fall.
A recent update to the first game made a subtle change to the ending that leads into the sequel. After the main character Chell was ejected from the Aperture lab where she was held captive, her unconscious body was dragged away by unseen antagonists. Portal 2 takes place hundreds of years after this incident, with Chell mysteriously intact.
Along with the return of her nemesis, the artificial intelligence named GLaDOS the main character will run into other personality cores throughout the decaying wreckage of the Aperture Science facility. These are small AI personalities in a box that will guide and accompany players as they face off against GLaDOS once again.
According to Game Informer, physics will play heavily into the new puzzles. There are Vital Apparatus Vents that create whirlwinds that can suck up objects and there are tractor beams that can transport objects through the air. Other new elements include lasers, catapults, and pneumatic tubes. There is also a way for players to coat surfaces with colors that imbue a surface with special properties. For example, if players cover a surface in orange paint it will give anyone who walks over it a speed boost. A blue coating causes normal surfaces to become bouncy. Other colors and effects are likely.
The sequel will also feature a full-length co-op campaign. It is part of the main game's narrative but don't expect to see another human join Chell. There are two new bots featured in Portal 2 that a second player can choose from as they join the game using either a split-screen display or an online match. The co-op is made to be more challenging and both players will have to work together to solve the puzzles. Valve, is reported to be working on a way for players to tag their environment with visual cues so that they can help guide their co-op partners actions with something more than their voice.
Finally, Valve has confirmed that Jonathan Coulton, the man responsible for the tune "Still Alive" has returned to work on the sequel. So not only will we have a new set of mind bending puzzles, but it's likely that we'll have a new song stuck in our heads as well.

According to IMDB, Batman Arkham Asylum 2 may include Robin. Vincent Martella has been listed as playing Robin in the upcoming sequel to last years smash hit. Bruce Greenwood is listed as playing Two-Face as well, though that is not as much of a surprise. Several other of the first games voice actors also appear to be back. Warner Bros, when asked about Robin, stated they will not discuss details of the sequel. This could simply be a mistake on the part of IMDB. However, if true, this could pose some interesting gameplay questions such as... coop? For more information check HERE

Today VALVe announced that STEAM will soon support the Mac Operation System. After years, Mac users will now be able to download the Half-Life Series, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal, and other VALVe titles. Portal 2 will be VALVe's first simultaneous release for both the PC and Mac OS, though no release date has been set. It is unknown if the full STEAM library will be available to Mac users, but it certainly is a decent starting selection.
STEAM will also introduce "Steam Play" which will allow users to play bought games on either Operating Systems. If you combine this with "Steam Cloud" you can play a game at one place on a Mac then continue the same game at another place using a PC. You can expect to see the Mac STEAM update sometime in April.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata confirmed that we are less than 365 days away from "...a new console Zelda game." The new Zelda game, dubbed ZWii, is going to feature graphics similar to Twilight Princess', though greatly improved by utilizing all of the Nintendo Wii's processing capabilities. It has also been rumored that ZWii will not follow the same linear storyline as its predecessors, and writers have been devising a totally new storyline system.
To top the announcement of ZWii releasing this year, GameStop apparently started taking pre-orders for ZWii yesterday:

GameStop works very close with multiple game developers and publishers, with Nintendo being among those. There's no doubt that GameStop heard the news of Zelda Wii coming out in 2010, and while we haven't had a confirmation of a worldwide 2010 release, it was enough for GameStop to kick preorders into gear tomorrow. Whether GameStop knows more than we do remains to be seen. Long story short, head into GameStop and reserve your copy tomorrow! Thanks to Travisto for the heads up!

Suffice to say, ZWii's release this year would be a miracle. 2011 is probably a more reasonable timeframe. Ocarina of Time was released 2 years after its "offical" release date, and the Zelda series in its entirety has rarely met a deadline. In any case, Zelda fans are very excited to be seeing a new Zelda game coming to the Nintendo Wii.

Steam is having it's annual holiday sale and all games excluding very recent releases are on sale. The sale is currently running from right now until January 3rd with savings of upwards to 80% per title. As well Steam is doing daily deals which puts games at upwards to 90% off! Can you resist the temptation? Can you set yourself a spending limit? I sure hope I can.
Feel free to share what you ended up purchasing, if anything at all!
